The Tennessee Valley runs a wider temperature swing than most of Alabama. Summer humidity sits on aluminum and vinyl frames for months, then December through February drops below freezing dozens of nights, and the valley picks up an ice event every few winters.
Water running down a door face gets behind the exterior rose and sits against the latch mechanism, which rusts the spring cassette and is why exterior handles fail far more often than interior ones.

Why does my door rattle after a new handle was fitted?
The new latch is probably sitting at a slightly different depth than the old one, so the strike no longer holds the door tight. Adjusting the strike fixes it in a few minutes.
My sliding door handle snapped off. Is that a common failure?
Very. The exterior pull on older patio doors is a thin casting that has been carrying the full weight of the panel every time someone drags a stiff door open. If your handle broke, check how hard the door is to move, because that is often the underlying cause.
Why does my exterior handle keep corroding?
Exposure. In Limestone County an exterior handle needs a finish rated for it, and cheap plated hardware on a door that gets weather will pit within a couple of years no matter how well it is installed.
Can you match new handles to my existing hardware?
In most cases. Finish families are reasonably consistent between brands, and for Athens homes where the hinges and locks are staying, matching the handle finish is usually straightforward.
My lever handle droops. Can that be repaired?
Yes, usually. The return spring inside the handle body has failed. On decent hardware we can replace the spring cassette; on thin builder-grade sets it is often cheaper to fit a better handle than to rebuild a weak one.
The handle turns but the door will not open. What is wrong?
The connection between the handle and the latch has broken, usually the spindle or the internal drive. If somebody is stuck behind that door, say so when you call and we will treat it accordingly.
