Storefront doors are built from a small number of standardized parts, which is good news. Pivots, closers, deadlatches, bottom rails and thresholds are all serviceable, and a tired entrance can usually be brought back to feeling like new.

The classic storefront failure is the door sagging on its bottom pivot until the top corner drags on the frame. It is gradual, everybody gets used to shouldering it, and then the deadlatch stops engaging and it becomes a security problem overnight.

How we work

  1. Look at the pivot firstOn a sagging storefront door the bottom pivot is the usual culprit, and everything else you might blame is a symptom of it.
  2. Check the closer independentlyWe disconnect and test the closer separately so we know whether the resistance is the closer or the door binding.
  3. Secure before you finishDeadlatch function comes first, because a shop that cannot lock its front door cannot close.
  4. Reset and square the doorPivots set, door squared in the opening, latch engaging cleanly without lifting or pulling.
  5. Set the closer to codeOpening force and closing speed adjusted for accessibility and for the actual traffic through the door.

Storefront Door Repair FAQs

Why does our storefront door drag at the top corner?

The bottom pivot has worn. The door is pivoting on a bearing that carries its entire weight, and when that wears the door drops and the top outside corner comes down against the frame. Replacing the pivot brings the whole door back into position.

Our front door will not lock at night. Can you come today?

That is exactly the call to make immediately. A your area business that cannot secure its front entrance has a real problem, and getting the deadlatch working again is usually straightforward once we see it.

How much does it cost to repair a storefront door versus replacing it?

Repair is dramatically cheaper. Aluminum storefront systems are designed with serviceable parts, and pivots, closers, latches and rails are all replaceable. Replacing an entrance means glass, framing and often the surrounding work.

Can you fix the door so it does not slam on customers?

Yes. That is closer adjustment, and it also needs to meet accessibility requirements for opening force. A properly set closer should let a customer through comfortably and still latch the door every time.

Someone broke in and bent the frame. Is it repairable?

In most cases. Aluminum frames damaged at the lock and strike can be straightened and reinforced. We secure the opening first and then do the permanent repair.

Do you replace storefront glass?

Yes, tempered glass for doors, sidelites and transoms. Board-up happens first so you can trade, and the glass follows once the unit is made.
