We know Choccolocco well: the older housing around the Choccolocco Road corridor, the newer construction toward Cheaha Mountain, and everything out past Choccolocco Creek.
Choccolocco has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

These are the door lock repair faults we are called out to most often in Choccolocco. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The smart lock keeps jamming or reporting failureMotorized deadbolts are far less tolerant of strike misalignment than manual ones.
- The key turns but nothing movesBroken tailpiece or a failed cam inside the cylinder.
- Corrosion visible around the cylinder faceSalt or moisture attacking the internals, which will seize the lock if it is not addressed.
- The keyed sliding door handle will not lockThe panel has dropped and the hook latch no longer reaches the keeper.
- The knob turns but the door stays shutBroken internal linkage between the knob and the latch.
- A key broke off in the cylinderFatigued key metal, often after months of a lock that was already stiff.

The foothills get real cold snaps and real heat, and the ground moves with them. Rocky, uneven fill under older slabs means door frames rarely stay perfectly square for a decade.
Pressure from a storm line pushes a door against its stop and holds the latch bolt under load, and repeatedly forcing a lock in that state wears the latch and the strike far faster than normal use ever would.
When the ground under a house moves, the strike side of the frame moves with it, and a deadbolt that has to be lifted or shouldered into place is nearly always reporting foundation movement rather than a failing lock.
None of it is a reason to replace a door. It is a reason to use the right parts and set the door up correctly in the first place.
Local factors we account for in Choccolocco: storm wind and soil movement — typical of the Appalachian foothills.

- Test the door before the lockWe close the door slowly and watch where the latch meets the strike, because a bolt that scrapes on entry is an alignment problem no new lock will solve.
- Diagnose the failure pointCylinder, latch mechanism, linkage or strike. Each one feels different under the key, and each one has a different fix.
- Fix the cause, not the symptomIf the frame has moved, we correct the strike or the hinge side rather than shimming a lock into a bad opening. We check for freeze damage as well as wear on foothill openings, since both are common and they need different fixes.
- Fit for the exposure, not the price listDoor thickness, backset and how much weather the opening sees all decide the hardware. Interior-grade parts on an exposed door fail fast.
- Adjust until it works one-handedIf you need a second hand on the door to turn the key, it is not finished, whatever the parts list says.
- Leave the keying tidyWhere a door has picked up mismatched cylinders over the years, we re-key so one key does the job.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door lock repair in Choccolocco
Pricing on door lock repair depends on what has actually failed, which is why we talk it through before quoting. These are the things that move the number:
- whether the frame or strike also needs correction
- commercial hardware requirements like fire ratings and lever functions
- whether it is a standard bored lock or a mortise case
- the grade and finish of the hardware you choose
- whether the lock can be rebuilt or needs full replacement
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Choccolocco.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door lock repair in Choccolocco: questions we get asked
Can you get me back in if I am locked out?
Call and tell us the situation. What matters is what kind of lock it is and whether the door is damaged, and we will tell you honestly what the options are.
Should I use a single or double cylinder deadbolt?
A double cylinder needs a key on both sides, which stops someone reaching through broken glass but also slows down anyone trying to get out in an emergency. For most Choccolocco homes with glass near the door, we would rather reinforce the glass and the frame and keep a single cylinder inside.
How do I stop my exterior lock from freezing?
Keep moisture out of the cylinder. In Calhoun County the freezes that cause it come with damp air, and a dry lubricant plus a functioning door sweep and drip cap does more good than anything you can put in the keyway after the fact.
Why do my locks work loose every few months?
Either the through bolts are backing out from door movement, or the bore has worn oversized. Both are fixable, but if it keeps happening the door itself is probably moving more than it should.
Do you work on commercial locks and exit devices?
Yes. Storefront mortise cylinders, lever sets, panic bars and keyed-alike systems for Choccolocco businesses are a regular part of the work.
My deadbolt only locks if I lift the door. Is the lock broken?
Probably not. That is the classic sign the door has dropped on its hinges or the frame has shifted, so the bolt is hitting the strike plate instead of entering it. In Choccolocco we see this constantly, and the fix is usually hinge and strike work rather than new hardware.
