If you are anywhere between the Walker Chapel Road corridor and Decatur Highway, or out toward Black Creek Park, we cover it, along with the rest of Jefferson County.
Fultondale has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

- The keyed sliding door handle will not lockThe panel has dropped and the hook latch no longer reaches the keeper.
- Two locks on the same door need different keysMismatched cylinders from a previous partial replacement, easily re-keyed to one key.
- The key turns but nothing movesBroken tailpiece or a failed cam inside the cylinder.
- The deadbolt only throws if you pull the doorClassic strike misalignment from a door or frame that has shifted.
- The key turns hard or sticksWorn cylinder pins, debris in the keyway, or a key that has been copied from a copy too many times.
- Corrosion visible around the cylinder faceSalt or moisture attacking the internals, which will seize the lock if it is not addressed.

Two storm seasons a year, spring and late fall, push water and debris against exterior doors across the metro.
Continuous humidity swells a wood door in its frame, and a swollen door puts the deadbolt slightly out of line with its strike, so the lock takes side load every time it is thrown and eventually the mechanism gives up.
Pressure from a storm line pushes a door against its stop and holds the latch bolt under load, and repeatedly forcing a lock in that state wears the latch and the strike far faster than normal use ever would.
None of it is a reason to replace a door. It is a reason to use the right parts and set the door up correctly in the first place.
Local factors we account for in Fultondale: sustained humidity and storm wind — typical of the Birmingham metro.

- Watch the bolt meet the strikeWe close the door slowly and see where the bolt lands. Most lock complaints are alignment complaints.
- Isolate the failureCylinder, latch, linkage or strike. We test each one with the door open so nothing masks anything else.
- Correct what movedIf the door has dropped or the frame has shifted, that gets fixed first. Filing the strike to fit a moved door just buys a few months.
- Fit hardware that suits the doorWeight, thickness, backset and exposure all matter, and exterior hardware in this part of Alabama needs the right finish to survive.
- Adjust until it works one-handedIf you need a second hand on the door to turn the key, it is not finished, whatever the parts list says. Metro-area openings often sit on clay that moves seasonally, so we check the frame for square before touching the hardware.
- Hand over the keys and check every oneWe test each key in each lock before leaving.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door lock repair in Fultondale
There is no single price for door lock repair in Fultondale, because two doors with identical symptoms can need very different work. Here is what makes the difference:
- whether it is a standard bored lock or a mortise case
- whether the lock can be rebuilt or needs full replacement
- the number of doors being keyed alike
- the grade and finish of the hardware you choose
- commercial hardware requirements like fire ratings and lever functions
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Fultondale.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door lock repair in Fultondale: questions we get asked
Why do my locks work loose every few months?
Either the through bolts are backing out from door movement, or the bore has worn oversized. Both are fixable, but if it keeps happening the door itself is probably moving more than it should.
How do I stop my exterior lock from freezing?
Keep moisture out of the cylinder. In Jefferson County the freezes that cause it come with damp air, and a dry lubricant plus a functioning door sweep and drip cap does more good than anything you can put in the keyway after the fact.
Should I use a single or double cylinder deadbolt?
A double cylinder needs a key on both sides, which stops someone reaching through broken glass but also slows down anyone trying to get out in an emergency. For most Fultondale homes with glass near the door, we would rather reinforce the glass and the frame and keep a single cylinder inside.
My deadbolt only locks if I lift the door. Is the lock broken?
Probably not. That is the classic sign the door has dropped on its hinges or the frame has shifted, so the bolt is hitting the strike plate instead of entering it. In Fultondale we see this constantly, and the fix is usually hinge and strike work rather than new hardware.
A key broke off in my lock. Can it be saved?
Usually. We extract the broken piece and check the cylinder, but the reason keys break is that the lock was already stiff, so we look at what caused that rather than just handing back a new key.
Can you get me back in if I am locked out?
Call and tell us the situation. What matters is what kind of lock it is and whether the door is damaged, and we will tell you honestly what the options are.
