We service every part of Piedmont, including Downtown Piedmont and Main Street, and the nearby Calhoun County towns like Oxford and Jacksonville.
Piedmont has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

These are the door frame repair faults we are called out to most often in Piedmont. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Fresh paint blisters at the jamb foot within a seasonMoisture driving out from inside the timber, which means the source has not been dealt with.
- The reveal is wide at the top and tight at the bottomThe hinge-side jamb has rotated, usually from fasteners that never reached the stud.
- Insects or carpenter ants near the door bottomAlmost always a sign of moisture-damaged wood in the jamb or sill.
- Screws in the hinges no longer biteHinge-side jamb material has been stripped or has softened with moisture.
- Weatherstrip will not seal no matter what you fitThe gap is not consistent, which means the frame geometry is wrong.
- The jamb sounds hollow when you tap itRot that has consumed the core while the paint film outside still looks intact.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why door frame repair fails in the Appalachian foothills
Storms coming off the ridges dump a lot of water in a short time, and any door with a compromised threshold pan will show it on the floor inside.
Expansive clay under a foundation lifts one side of an opening and drops the other, and a frame that has racked will never let its door close correctly no matter how much work goes into the door itself.
Heavy rainfall overwhelms whatever drainage exists at a threshold, and if there is no sill pan under the frame the water goes into the framing and the subfloor, so what shows up as a soft jamb is usually the smallest part of the problem.
We see the pattern often enough across Calhoun County that we usually know what we are looking at before we arrive.
Local factors we account for in Piedmont: soil movement and heavy rainfall — typical of the Appalachian foothills.

- Full frame replacementWhen the damage is beyond repair, replacing the frame without disturbing more of the wall than necessary.

- Find out what moved and whyWe check plumb, level and square across the opening and look for the cause, because a frame that is out of square because the foundation moved will go out of square again.
- Probe for the real extent of the rotDamaged wood is almost always larger than what shows. We find sound material before deciding on a repair.
- Choose repair or replacement honestlyIf splicing gets you a solid frame we splice. If the damage runs into the framing behind it, we tell you that instead of covering it. Foothill jobs get assessed for wind loading, because doors here take gusts that flatten seals unevenly.
- Rebuild in material that survives hereTreated timber, composite or a full jamb depending on exposure. Untreated pine at a wet sill is a repair with an expiry date.
- Reset the door to the repaired frameConsistent reveal, correct hinge alignment and a latch that engages without pressure.
- Seal and finishCaulking, flashing and paintable finish so the repair is protected from the first rain.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door frame repair in Piedmont
What a door frame repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:
- whether the threshold and sill pan also need rebuilding
- wood versus hollow metal frames on commercial openings
- interior versus exterior frames, since exterior work includes weatherproofing
- whether the frame can be spliced or has to be replaced
- whether the cause is structural movement that needs to be addressed first
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Piedmont.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door frame repair in Piedmont: questions we get asked
How do I know if the damage is rot or termites?
Rot is soft and spongy and follows water paths from the bottom up. Insect damage leaves galleries and frass. Either way the moisture problem that let it start needs fixing, or the repair will not last in Calhoun County.
Can a rotted door frame be repaired, or do I need a whole new door?
In most cases the frame can be repaired and the door reused. We cut out the decayed section back to sound wood and splice in new material. Replacing the whole unit only makes sense when the rot has reached the framing behind the jamb.
My frame is fine but the door still will not shut. What else could it be?
Hinges, the door slab itself swelling, or a strike that has moved. We check the whole opening rather than assuming, because misdiagnosing this is how people end up buying a door they did not need.
Will fixing the frame fix my lock problems?
Very often, yes. If the deadbolt has been hard to throw, the strike side of the frame is usually the reason. Correcting the frame lines the bolt up with the strike again.
The head of my door frame sags. Is that serious?
It can be. A sagging head jamb often means the header above the opening is carrying load it should not be. We look at that before doing cosmetic work, because the door is telling you something about the structure.
How long does a door frame repair take?
A straightforward jamb splice or strike rebuild in Piedmont is a few hours. A full frame replacement with new threshold and flashing is most of a day. Structural movement that has to be addressed first can add to that.
