Our territory takes in Roanoke and the communities around it in Randolph County, so calls from Downtown Roanoke, Main Street and out by the Roanoke square all get the same response.
Roanoke has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

These are the door handle repair faults we are called out to most often in Roanoke. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The lever droops and will not return levelFailed return spring inside the handle body.
- The handle sticks in the retracted positionSeized mechanism or a spring that has broken and jammed.
- You have to jiggle the handle for the door to openThe latch is only partly retracting, or the strike is catching it.
- The inside lever works but the outside one does notA sheared spindle or a split-spindle set with one half stripped at the tang.
- The finish is pitting or flakingCorrosion, usually from humidity or salt exposure on an exterior door.
- The exterior handle on the sliding door has snappedCommon on old patio doors where the pull is a thin casting under years of load.

East central Alabama runs humid most of the year with mild winters, so wood movement is gradual but constant rather than dramatic.
Humidity swells a wood door so the latch has to be pulled harder to clear a tight strike, and that extra force goes straight through the handle spindle, which is the part that eventually shears.
Wind catching a door pulls it out of somebody's hand and slams it, and repeated slamming is what loosens handle mounting screws and eventually oversizes the bore in the door.
We see the pattern often enough across Randolph County that we usually know what we are looking at before we arrive.
Local factors we account for in Roanoke: sustained humidity and storm wind — typical of east central Alabama.

- Work out what is actually looseRose, chassis, spindle or fixings. They feel similar from the outside and need different fixes.
- Check the door before the hardwareA lever that needs force is often fighting a misaligned strike rather than failing on its own.
- Repair where it is worth repairingGood hardware often just needs a spring cassette or a spindle, and that is a better outcome than replacing a solid brass set with a builder-grade one.
- Fit square to the doorBackset, thickness and bore all get checked. A set fitted to an oversized bore will work loose again within weeks.
- Adjust the latch engagementThe door should close and latch with a light push, not a shove.
- Check every handle in the runIf one handle in a house or building has worn out, we look at the others while we are there. We look at how the opening sits across the seasons rather than just today, because a one-day adjustment tends not to survive the year.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door handle repair in Roanoke
There is no single price for door handle repair in Roanoke, because two doors with identical symptoms can need very different work. Here is what makes the difference:
- commercial grade requirements on high-use doors
- keyed versus non-keyed function
- the grade and finish of the hardware chosen
- how many doors are being done at once
- whether the bore or backset needs correction
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Roanoke.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door handle repair in Roanoke: questions we get asked
Do you do commercial handle and lever work?
Yes, including Grade 1 lever sets, classroom and storeroom functions and hardware on doors with closers, where the handle has to work against constant spring pressure.
The handle turns but the door will not open. What is wrong?
The connection between the handle and the latch has broken, usually the spindle or the internal drive. If somebody is stuck behind that door, say so when you call and we will treat it accordingly.
The handles in my rental property keep failing. Why?
Almost always builder-grade hardware on doors that get heavy use. Grade 2 or Grade 1 hardware costs more up front and stops the repeat calls, which for a landlord in Roanoke usually pays for itself inside two years.
My sliding door handle snapped off. Is that a common failure?
Very. The exterior pull on older patio doors is a thin casting that has been carrying the full weight of the panel every time someone drags a stiff door open. If your handle broke, check how hard the door is to move, because that is often the underlying cause.
Why does my door rattle after a new handle was fitted?
The new latch is probably sitting at a slightly different depth than the old one, so the strike no longer holds the door tight. Adjusting the strike fixes it in a few minutes.
My lever handle droops. Can that be repaired?
Yes, usually. The return spring inside the handle body has failed. On decent hardware we can replace the spring cassette; on thin builder-grade sets it is often cheaper to fit a better handle than to rebuild a weak one.
