We know Satsuma well: the older housing around the Baker Road corridor, the newer construction toward the US-43 corridor, and everything out past Steele Creek Lodge.
A lot of what we see in Mobile County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.

These are the interior door repair faults we are called out to most often in Satsuma. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The door swings open or closed on its ownHinge line out of plumb.
- The barn door rattles against the wall as it movesMissing or worn floor guide, letting the panel swing at the bottom.
- The privacy lock will not release from outsideA worn or bent emergency release, which matters most on bathroom doors.
- A closet door has started scraping the carpet only in summerSeasonal swelling in a door with almost no bottom clearance to begin with.
- A pocket door off its rollersFailed roller hangers inside the wall pocket.
- Doors that will not close in humid monthsSeasonal swelling on a door that already had marginal clearance.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why interior door repair fails in the Alabama Gulf Coast
Blowing sand gets into everything down here. Tracks, screen channels, thresholds and lock cylinders all collect it, and it acts like sandpaper on moving parts.
Pressure differences from wind and from HVAC cycling swing interior doors and slam them, which loosens hinge screws and is hard on both the door and the frame.
Even inside, coastal air corrodes hinge pins and latch springs on interior doors, particularly in houses that get opened up for breezes, and it shows up as squeaking hinges and stiff latches.
We see the pattern often enough across Mobile County that we usually know what we are looking at before we arrive.
Local factors we account for in Satsuma: storm wind and salt air — typical of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

- Look at the house, not one doorIf several doors have started sticking in the same season, the cause is usually humidity or movement rather than the doors.
- Diagnose sag versus swelling versus frame movementThey look identical from a distance and need completely different fixes.
- Adjust before cuttingHinge shims, longer screws and strike adjustment fix most sticking doors. Planing a door is permanent and often unnecessary.
- Repair the hardware properlyLatches, privacy sets, bifold pivots, pocket door hangers and barn door guides all get the correct parts rather than a workaround.
- Set the latch to close quietlyThe strike is adjusted so the door closes with a light push and stays shut without rattling in the airflow.
- Leave the set consistentDoors through a house should feel the same to use. We adjust the others while we are there rather than leaving one odd one. Coastal jobs get stainless or coated fixings as standard, since anything else here is a return visit waiting to happen.

What a interior door repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:
- specialty hardware such as pocket, bifold and barn door systems
- trimming doors to clear new flooring
- adjustment and hardware work versus door slab replacement
- hollow core versus solid core doors
- how many doors are being worked on in one visit
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Satsuma.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Interior door repair in Satsuma: questions we get asked
Can you hang a barn door properly?
Yes, and the important part is the backing. Barn door track has to be fixed into solid framing, not into drywall with anchors, or the whole thing eventually pulls off the wall.
Do you replace interior doors as well as repair them?
Yes. A new slab hung in the existing frame is a common job and much simpler than replacing the whole frame and casing.
Can a hole in a hollow core door be repaired?
It can be patched, but the honest answer for most Satsuma homes is that a replacement slab hung in the existing frame with the existing hardware often looks better and costs less than a repair that will always be visible.
My bedroom door sticks at the top. Do I need to plane it?
Probably not, and we would try everything else first. Sticking at the top corner is usually hinge sag, and correcting the hinges brings the door back without removing any material. Planing is permanent and it is the last resort, not the first.
How many doors can you do in one visit?
Most of a typical house. Interior door work is quick once we are on site, and doing them together is far better value than calling us back for each one.
My bathroom door locked with a child inside. Can that be prevented?
Yes. Privacy sets have an emergency release on the outside, and if it did not work the latch has failed and needs replacing. It is a cheap part and worth doing on every privacy door in the house.
