Our Tallassee customers are spread from Downtown Tallassee to the Gilmer Avenue corridor and out around the Tallassee Falls on the Tallapoosa, and we serve the surrounding Elmore County communities on the same schedule.
Tallassee has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

Remnants of Gulf systems still carry serious rain this far inland, and doors on the south and west sides of a house take the brunt of it.
A gust catching an open door and slamming it against its stop puts an enormous shock load through the top hinge, and that single event is often what starts a sag that develops over the following months.
Water running down a door edge collects at the hinge leaves and sits in the mortise, which corrodes the hinge and softens the jamb wood the screws are anchored in.
We factor that in on every door hinge repair job around the Tallassee Falls on the Tallapoosa and the rest of Tallassee.
Local factors we account for in Tallassee: storm wind and heavy rainfall — typical of the River Region.

- Measure the reveal all roundThe gap pattern around a sagging door points straight at which hinge has given up.
- Check what the screws are holding ontoShort screws into casing rather than framing are the most common cause of sag we see, and no hinge fixes that.
- Rebuild the anchorageWhere the screws no longer bite, we fill and re-drill so the fixings reach solid material, then fit long screws into framing.
- Match the hinge to the doorWeight, size, throw and finish. Heavy doors and doors with closers need bearing hinges.
- Re-hang and check the revealEven gap top to bottom on the latch side, and a door that stays where you leave it.
- Confirm the lock still lines upCorrecting a sag moves the latch, so the strike is checked and adjusted as part of the same visit. In the River Region we check for both humidity swelling and clay movement, because the two are easy to confuse and need different work.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door hinge repair in Tallassee
We would rather tell you what drives the price than quote a number that turns out to be wrong once we see the door. On a door hinge repair job in Tallassee, the main variables are these:
- how many hinges need replacement versus repair
- finish and security hardware selections
- whether the door also needs re-hanging or the strike relocated
- the weight and size of the door
- whether the mortises or screw holes need rebuilding first
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Tallassee.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door hinge repair in Tallassee: questions we get asked
Can hinges be repaired or do they have to be replaced?
Pins, tips and lubrication problems are repairable. Once the knuckles have worn oval and the hinge has play in it, it is done and needs replacing, and putting a new pin in a worn hinge does not help.
Are the hinges on my sliding door serviceable?
Sliding doors do not use hinges, but French and swinging patio doors do, and they are heavy. Those hinges take a lot of load and are worth checking if the door has started dragging.
How do I know which hinge is the problem?
Look at the gap between the door and the frame down the latch side. If it is tight at the top and wide at the bottom, the top hinge has pulled. That is the one carrying the most load and it fails first.
Will fixing the hinges fix my latching problem?
Frequently. A door that has dropped on its hinges puts the latch below the strike. Bringing the door back to position often means the lock works again with no other work.
My door is sagging. Do I need a new door?
Almost never. A sagging door is a hinge problem, usually the top hinge losing its grip on the jamb. Once the fasteners are anchored into the framing properly the door comes back up and latches again.
Why do my hinge screws keep coming loose?
Because they are only holding into jamb material, which is often less than an inch of soft wood. Long screws driven into the structural framing behind the jamb solve it permanently.
