We service every part of Atmore, including Downtown Atmore and the Main Street corridor, and the nearby Escambia County towns like Brewton and East Brewton.
A lot of what we see in Escambia County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895The door hinge repair problems we see most in Atmore
These are the door hinge repair faults we are called out to most often in Atmore. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The door binds only in the last inch of closingA hinge mortised too deep, pushing the door toward the strike as it comes home.
- There is a rhythmic tick as the door swingsA worn knuckle riding on a bent pin, or a pin that has begun to climb out.
- The top hinge shows a visible V-shaped gapThe classic sag signature. The top hinge is carrying load the other hinges have stopped sharing.
- Rust streaks below the hingesCorroding hinges, common on exterior doors that get weather.
- Knuckles worn oval and the pin is looseEnd of hinge life, usually on a heavy or high-use door.
- Commercial door binding against the frameWorn hinges or failed bearings on a heavy door with a closer.

Between roughly 65 inches of rain a year, near-constant humidity and a June-to-November hurricane season, coastal doors work harder than doors anywhere else in Alabama.
Grit in a hinge knuckle grinds the pin and the barrel every time the door swings, and a hinge that squeals in a sandy environment is usually already worn oval inside.
A gust catching an open door and slamming it against its stop puts an enormous shock load through the top hinge, and that single event is often what starts a sag that develops over the following months.
We factor that in on every door hinge repair job around Wind Creek Atmore and the rest of Atmore.
Local factors we account for in Atmore: blowing sand and storm wind — typical of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

- Find the hinge that actually failedThe door drags at the latch, but the fault is almost always at the top hinge. We check each one under load.
- Check what the screws are holding ontoShort screws into casing rather than framing are the most common cause of sag we see, and no hinge fixes that. On the coast we also check every fastener on the opening, because salt finds plated screws long before it touches the door itself.
- Repair the mortise before the hardwareChewed or split mortises get dowelled and re-cut. Fitting a new hinge to damaged timber just moves the failure a few weeks out.
- Match the hinge to the doorWeight, size, throw and finish. Heavy doors and doors with closers need bearing hinges.
- Re-hang and check the revealEven gap top to bottom on the latch side, and a door that stays where you leave it.
- Confirm the latch and lock still line upMoving a door on its hinges changes where the latch lands, so the strike gets checked too.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door hinge repair in Atmore
What a door hinge repair job costs comes down to a handful of things, and we would rather be straight about them up front:
- whether the door also needs re-hanging or the strike relocated
- standard hinges versus ball bearing or continuous hinges
- finish and security hardware selections
- whether the mortises or screw holes need rebuilding first
- how many hinges need replacement versus repair
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Atmore.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door hinge repair in Atmore: questions we get asked
How do I know which hinge is the problem?
Look at the gap between the door and the frame down the latch side. If it is tight at the top and wide at the bottom, the top hinge has pulled. That is the one carrying the most load and it fails first.
Will fixing the hinges fix my latching problem?
Frequently. A door that has dropped on its hinges puts the latch below the strike. Bringing the door back to position often means the lock works again with no other work.
My door is sagging. Do I need a new door?
Almost never. A sagging door is a hinge problem, usually the top hinge losing its grip on the jamb. Once the fasteners are anchored into the framing properly the door comes back up and latches again.
Do heavy doors need special hinges?
Yes. Solid core, exterior and commercial doors, and any door with a closer on it, should be on ball bearing hinges. Plain butt hinges on a heavy door wear out fast and take the jamb with them.
Are the hinges on my sliding door serviceable?
Sliding doors do not use hinges, but French and swinging patio doors do, and they are heavy. Those hinges take a lot of load and are worth checking if the door has started dragging.
Should I upgrade to security hinges on my exterior doors?
If the hinges are on the outside, yes. Non-removable pins or set screws stop the hinge side being an easy way in, and it is inexpensive compared with everything else you might do to secure an entry.
