Atmore sits in Escambia County, and our work here runs from Downtown Atmore out past Wind Creek Atmore, with Brewton and East Brewton close enough that we are usually in the area anyway.
Between the established parts of Atmore and the newer subdivisions, we see two different kinds of failure: worn-out frames on one side of town and worn-out hardware on the other.
One call gets you an answer. We will tell you what is wrong and what it takes to fix.
Click to Call (205) 619-2895Common window repair faults in Escambia County
These are the window repair faults we are called out to most often in Atmore. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- The sash will not stay upFailed balances or a broken sash cord on an older window.
- A slider window has worn a groove in its trackFailed rollers running on bare track, and the track will need attention as well as the rollers.
- Fogging between the panesThe insulated glass seal has failed and moisture is inside the unit.
- The glazing bead is loose along one edgeShrinkage or failed fasteners, which lets water into the glazing rebate.
- Water pools on the sill track and does not clearBlocked weep slots. Water that cannot leave the track finds its way inside.
- The screen is torn or missingRescreening or a replacement screen panel.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Why window repair fails in the Alabama Gulf Coast
Between roughly 65 inches of rain a year, near-constant humidity and a June-to-November hurricane season, coastal doors work harder than doors anywhere else in Alabama.
High humidity saturates the desiccant in a sealed glass unit quickly once its seal has begun to fail, and it also keeps wood sashes at a moisture content where rot can get started.
Windows are designed to collect water in the frame and drain it out through weep holes, and blocked weeps during heavy rain is the standard reason water appears on an interior sill.
It is why the same repair done properly in Atmore lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.
Local factors we account for in Atmore: sustained humidity and heavy rainfall — typical of the Alabama Gulf Coast.

- Identify the window and its makerBalances, operators and hardware are manufacturer-specific. Identifying the system decides what is available and what has to be adapted.
- Operate it slowly and watchWhere the effort rises through the travel tells us which component has failed, often before anything comes apart.
- Check the drainageBlocked weep slots put water on the sill and into the wall, and they are behind a lot of what gets blamed on the glass.
- Be clear where replacement is rightWhere a frame is rotted through or a unit is obsolete, we say so plainly instead of selling a repair that will not hold.
- Reseal properlyCorrect sealant on a clean, sound surface, and glazing set with the right blocking so the unit is supported rather than pinched.
- Test operation and lock engagementThe window should open, close and lock without force. We check the drainage path on every coastal opening, because wind-driven rain gets in where ordinary rain never would.

- screen work alongside the window repair

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Window repair in Atmore: questions we get asked
Why will my window not lock anymore?
The sash has dropped or shifted, so the lock and keeper no longer meet. Forcing it can break the lock, and the actual fix is usually alignment rather than new hardware.
My window will not stay open. What is broken?
The balances. On a double hung window they counterweight the sash, and when one fails the sash drops. It is a replaceable part and far cheaper than a new window.
When is a window genuinely not worth repairing?
When the frame itself has failed structurally or the window is so far gone that repair costs approach replacement. That is a much smaller set of windows than you would think from replacement advertising, and we will tell you when you are in it.
How do I stop condensation on my windows in winter?
Some of it is indoor humidity rather than the window. But if the glass surface is cold enough to condense heavily, the unit may have failed. In Atmore it is worth checking whether the moisture is on the surface or between the panes.
Can you replace glass without replacing the whole window?
Yes, in nearly all cases. Broken panes, cracked glass and failed insulated units are all replaceable in the existing frame.
My casement crank spins without moving the window. Why?
The gears in the operator have stripped. It is a common failure and a straightforward replacement as long as we can identify the manufacturer.
