Between Hayden proper, the the AL-160 corridor area and the newer building out toward Old Highway 31, we stay busy in Blount County, and Oneonta is close enough that we are often nearby.
Hayden has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

These are the sliding door repair faults we are called out to most often in Hayden. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Daylight at the top or bottom cornerThe panel is out of plumb, usually from uneven roller adjustment or a frame that has moved.
- The door bounces or chatters as it movesFlat spots worn onto nylon roller wheels that have been running on grit.
- It slides fine one way and binds the otherOne roller of the tandem pair has collapsed, so the panel is running out of level.
- It jumps off the trackThe panel has dropped low enough that it is no longer captured by the head channel, or the roller adjustment screws have backed out.
- The interlock at the meeting stile has separatedThe panel has dropped far enough that the stiles no longer engage each other.
- Water on the floor after heavy rainBlocked weep holes in the sill, so the track fills and backs up over the interior lip.

Elevation means wind. Doors on exposed western walls take a beating that the same door in a sheltered valley subdivision would never see.
Repeated freezes make the vinyl fin seal and bulb weatherstrip on a slider go brittle, and a brittle seal cracks the first time the panel closes hard against it, which is why so many doors here are draftier every January than the last.
Meltwater running into a bottom track and refreezing overnight cracks roller housings and lifts panels off their wheels, and forcing a frozen door is what turns a cheap roller job into track damage.
It is why the same repair done properly in Hayden lasts, and the same repair done cheaply does not.
Local factors we account for in Hayden: winter freezes and ice and sleet — typical of the Sand Mountain and Lookout Mountain plateau.

- Start with the openingBefore the panel comes out we check the header for deflection and the sill for level, because a door cannot run true in an opening that is not.
- Pull and inspect the panelThe panel comes out so we can see the roller housings, the bottom rail and the condition of the track underneath.
- Match the hardwareSliding door rollers are not universal. We identify the manufacturer and panel weight and fit the right tandem assembly rather than the closest thing on the truck.
- Bring the running surface backA pitted or peened track will destroy new rollers in a season, so it gets dressed, capped or replaced before anything goes back in.
- Level the panel, then set the heightBoth adjusters are wound together so the panel sits level and the interlock engages along its whole length, not just at the top. We check the drainage for ice blockage on mountain openings, which is a fault that only shows up on the coldest days.
- Check the weep holes before we goA door that slides beautifully but drains badly will still put water on your floor, so the drainage gets cleared and tested.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of sliding door repair in Hayden
Every sliding door repair call in Blount County is a little different, and the cost follows what the door actually needs:
- the size and weight of the panel, since heavy insulated glass units need heavier assemblies
- whether the fix is rollers only or rollers plus track repair
- the age of the door and whether replacement hardware is still made for it
- how many panels the system has, since three and four panel doors take longer to set
- whether the frame has moved and needs shimming or refastening
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Hayden.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Sliding door repair in Hayden: questions we get asked
Will new rollers fix a door that scrapes loudly?
Only if the track is still in good condition. Once a roller has broken through and the housing has been riding on bare aluminum, the track has a groove worn in it, and new rollers dropped onto that groove will fail quickly. That is when we cap the track.
Can a sliding door that has stopped rolling be fixed, or does it need replacing?
Almost always fixed. The frame and glass are usually fine and it is the two small roller assemblies underneath that have failed. Replacing a whole patio door in Hayden is a several thousand dollar job; rebuilding the rollers and track is a fraction of that and gets you a door that rolls better than it has in years.
Can you fix the lock without fixing the door?
Sometimes, but if the door has settled, a new lock will not line up with the keeper any better than the old one did. We check the panel alignment first, because a lock that will not catch is often a symptom rather than the actual problem.
Do you charge to come look at it?
We talk through the symptoms on the phone first, because a lot of sliding door problems can be narrowed down from a good description and a photo of the bottom rail. Call and we will tell you what we think is going on and what it takes to fix.
Do you work on the big multi-panel and stacking patio doors?
Yes. Those systems put a lot of weight on each roller and they are less forgiving of a frame that is even slightly out of square, so alignment work matters more on them than on a standard two-panel door.
Do you replace the glass in sliding doors too?
Yes. Fogged units where the insulated seal has failed, cracked panes and full tempered glass replacement are all part of what we do, and we can usually keep the existing frame.
