Our Ladonia customers are spread from the US-80 corridor to Ladonia Drive and out around the Chattahoochee River, and we serve the surrounding Russell County communities on the same schedule.
A lot of what we see in Russell County comes down to age. Houses built decades ago have solid frames with tired hardware; houses built recently have sound hardware in frames that are still settling.

These are the door closer repair faults we are called out to most often in Ladonia. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- Different behavior in summer and winterFluid viscosity changing with temperature, which needs seasonal adjustment or a temperature-stable closer.
- A fire door that stays openSerious safety issue: failed closer or a hold-open that should be releasing.
- Screws pulling out of the door or frameCloser mounting has failed, often because the closer was undersized for the door.
- The door does not close the last inchClosing force is too low, or the door is binding on the frame in the final approach.
- The door closes fast then stops shortMismatched sweep and latch speed settings.
- The door slams open against the wallBackcheck has failed or is not adjusted, and the arm and frame are taking the impact.

Spring storm lines come through fast here and put a lot of wind pressure on doors before the rain even starts.
Humidity swells a wood door so it drags in the frame during the final approach, and turning the closer up to overcome that makes the door punishingly heavy to open while doing nothing about the actual cause.
Dust in the arm pivots and the shoe makes the linkage bind, and a binding linkage produces exactly the symptoms people blame on the closer's internal valves.
We see the pattern often enough across Russell County that we usually know what we are looking at before we arrive.
Local factors we account for in Ladonia: sustained humidity and grit and dust — typical of east central Alabama.

- Time the closeA door that shuts in under five seconds or fails to latch tells us which valve is at fault before the cover comes off.
- Rule out the door before blaming the closerA door binding on the frame makes a perfectly good closer look weak, and turning the closer up is the wrong answer.
- Adjust before replacingMany closers we are called to are serviceable and simply out of adjustment. That is a much smaller job and we say so.
- Match to the opening's dutyA fire door, an accessible entrance and an internal office door have different requirements, and the specification follows the door.
- Set for people, not just latchingOpening force is checked so the door is usable by everybody, then latch speed is set so it still closes properly. We look at how the opening sits across the seasons rather than just today, because a one-day adjustment tends not to survive the year.
- Fit a stop if it needs oneA closer with no backcheck and no stop will eventually put the handle through the wall and tear its own fixings out.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of door closer repair in Ladonia
Every door closer repair call in Russell County is a little different, and the cost follows what the door actually needs:
- whether the mounting has to be repaired or reinforced
- surface, concealed or floor mounted closer type
- fire rating and accessibility compliance requirements
- adding overhead stops or hold-open functions
- adjustment versus rebuild versus full replacement
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Ladonia.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Door closer repair in Ladonia: questions we get asked
My door slams every time. Can that be adjusted?
Almost always. There is a latch speed valve on the closer that controls the last few inches, and it has probably drifted or been set wrong. Adjusting it takes minutes and saves your frame, hinges and hardware from a lot of abuse.
Do door closers need different settings in summer and winter?
They can. The hydraulic fluid thins in heat and thickens in cold, so a closer set perfectly in Ladonia in August may close too slowly in January. Quality closers hold their setting better across the temperature swing.
Do you work on floor closers?
Yes. Floor closers under heavy entrance doors are serviceable, though they are more involved to work on because the unit sits in the floor.
What size closer do I need?
It depends on the door width, weight and exposure. Exterior doors in Russell County also need to handle wind, and an undersized closer on a windy exposure gets destroyed.
Our fire door is propped open. Is that a problem?
Yes, and it is one of the most common code violations we see. A fire door that cannot close and latch is not doing anything. If it gets propped because it is hard to use, that is the problem to solve.
My door does not close all the way. What is going on?
Either the closing force is too low, or the door is dragging on the frame in the last few inches. In Ladonia we see the second one often, because a frame that has moved makes a good closer look weak.
