Between Meadowbrook proper, the the Meadow Brook Corporate Park area area and the newer building out toward US-280, we stay busy in Shelby County, and Alabaster is close enough that we are often nearby.
Meadowbrook has enough older housing stock that repair almost always beats replacement here, and enough new construction that we spend a lot of time on hardware that failed early.

These are the sliding door repair faults we are called out to most often in Meadowbrook. If you recognise one, the underlying cause is usually the second half of the line.
- A loud grinding or scraping noiseMetal-on-metal contact where the roller housing has broken through and is riding on the bare track.
- The interlock at the meeting stile has separatedThe panel has dropped far enough that the stiles no longer engage each other.
- Daylight at the top or bottom cornerThe panel is out of plumb, usually from uneven roller adjustment or a frame that has moved.
- The door bounces or chatters as it movesFlat spots worn onto nylon roller wheels that have been running on grit.
- The handle pulls but nothing releasesBroken latch linkage inside the stile, or a snapped internal actuator rod.
- The door will not latch anymoreThe panel has settled out of square, so the hook or mortise latch no longer lines up with the keeper.

Birmingham-area red clay expands when it is wet and contracts hard when it dries out. That movement travels straight up into slabs and foundations, and door frames are usually the first place a homeowner notices it.
Storm wind pushes hard on the large flat surface of a patio slider and drives the panel against the interlock, which loosens roller adjustment over time and works the panel out of alignment with its latch keeper.
When the soil under a slab swells and shrinks, the wide opening a patio slider sits in is one of the first places the movement shows, and a frame that has racked even a quarter inch will make a brand new set of rollers bind on one end of the travel.
We factor that in on every sliding door repair job around the Cahaba River and the rest of Meadowbrook.
Local factors we account for in Meadowbrook: storm wind and soil movement — typical of the Birmingham metro.

- Start with the openingBefore the panel comes out we check the header for deflection and the sill for level, because a door cannot run true in an opening that is not.
- Get the glass out of the way safelyA patio panel is heavy and awkward. We take it out properly so the track and the roller housings can actually be seen.
- Match rollers to the door, not the cataloguePanel weight, housing type and track profile all decide the roller. Fitting whatever is on the van is why doors come back.
- Restore the running surfaceWorn track gets repaired or capped so the new rollers are not immediately damaged by the old groove. We flush the running surfaces properly on metro jobs rather than just wiping them, since fine clay packs into places a cloth will not reach.
- Set it so the lock works without liftingThe height is right when the latch engages with the door simply pushed closed. Anything you have to lift is still misadjusted.
- Check the weep holes before we goA door that slides beautifully but drains badly will still put water on your floor, so the drainage gets cleared and tested.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895What affects the cost of sliding door repair in Meadowbrook
We would rather tell you what drives the price than quote a number that turns out to be wrong once we see the door. On a sliding door repair job in Meadowbrook, the main variables are these:
- whether the fix is rollers only or rollers plus track repair
- the age of the door and whether replacement hardware is still made for it
- the size and weight of the panel, since heavy insulated glass units need heavier assemblies
- how much damage the worn track has taken before the call
- how many panels the system has, since three and four panel doors take longer to set
Call and describe what the door is doing. In most cases we can tell you over the phone which of those applies to you before anyone drives out to Meadowbrook.

Click to Call (205) 619-2895Sliding door repair in Meadowbrook: questions we get asked
Can you fix the lock without fixing the door?
Sometimes, but if the door has settled, a new lock will not line up with the keeper any better than the old one did. We check the panel alignment first, because a lock that will not catch is often a symptom rather than the actual problem.
Do you charge to come look at it?
We talk through the symptoms on the phone first, because a lot of sliding door problems can be narrowed down from a good description and a photo of the bottom rail. Call and we will tell you what we think is going on and what it takes to fix.
Do you replace the glass in sliding doors too?
Yes. Fogged units where the insulated seal has failed, cracked panes and full tempered glass replacement are all part of what we do, and we can usually keep the existing frame.
Will new rollers fix a door that scrapes loudly?
Only if the track is still in good condition. Once a roller has broken through and the housing has been riding on bare aluminum, the track has a groove worn in it, and new rollers dropped onto that groove will fail quickly. That is when we cap the track.
My door came off the track. Did I break something?
Usually not. A panel comes out of the track when it has dropped low enough that the head channel no longer holds it, which means the rollers were already worn or the adjustment screws backed out. Putting it back without correcting the height means it will happen again.
Is there anything I can do to make my sliding door last longer?
Vacuum the track rather than sweeping it, keep silicone rather than oil-based lubricant on the running surface, and check that the weep holes at the bottom of the sill are open. Oil-based products in Meadowbrook collect dust and grit and turn into grinding paste.
Need it looked at soon?Call and we will tell you honestly when we can get there.
